Convertible Backpack Bags

My blog review of the convertible backpack bag

Ok, yes, I realize I’m not unbiased, but it isn’t actually that often that I get to use my own product out in the wild.

First off, I have to say, I don’t like purses

I’m not a purse person. I realize they have their function, but they don’t work for me. For one thing, they fall of my shoulder. I don’t know if I have particularly slopey shoulders, but I can’t keep a bag strap on my shoulder to save my life. I love backpack purses! So when I found this pattern from ChrisW Designs, I thought, “How perfect: a purse that converts to a backpack”.

It’s a super easy transition, too. Just grab the straps on the sides and pull them through the O-rings. And it converts back to a shoulder bag just as easily!

Extremely CONVENIENT while traveling

I recently had the chance to visit my son at his new college in New York. This was when I grabbed one of the convertible purses from my stock and made it mine. The first thing I realized was that the flat bottom made it extremely stable to set on top of my roller bag.

The front zipper pocket was also a convenient place to keep my boarding pass (yes, I still use paper boarding passes) and my ID.

I have to confess, when sewing these and installing the cell phone pocket on the back, I always thought, “I’d never use that, I always put my phone in my jean’s pocket”. Well, I was wrong! A quick place to put your phone (like when using the restroom), became my most used feature of this bag.

Hey, it’s a cross body bag too, don’t forget!

With a quick unclip and clip the bag easily convert to a cross body, which I used while walking the streets of New York. I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of someone having access to my backpack, so I converted it to the crossbody and kept it safely, and comfortably in front of me.

I also kept my wallet in the inside zipper pocket, just for added security. (And I have a big wallet!)

Don’t forget those handy front slipper pockets!

Snacks on the plane found a home that was easily accessible even from the floor in that stupid “footwell” they expect you to put everything, including your feet.

The front cargo pocket was just big enough for my mask, earphones and my cellphone charger.

In a pinch, it doubles as a laptop bag

If, like me, you are constantly being badgered into checking your roller bag on the plane, you need somewhere to keep your laptop.

My Macbook measures 12 1/2” by 8 3/4” and fit perfectly inside the purse.

Home. Tired. Where is my key? Right here!

I keep my house key on the end of the zipper so it’s alway right there when I need it.

Conveniently, I have a car that doesn’t need a key, so my key fob lives there too.

Don’t worry, it tucks inside, so it isn’t flapping around all the time.

So my review? I’m keeping my bag! 😀
